Winter Energy Saving Tips

The holidays may be over, but winter is just getting started. In many areas, we’ve already seen multiple snowstorms accompanied by extremely cold weather. Because of that, energy bills have been working overtime. But there are many things you can do to keep the temperature in your home up and the energy bills down. Here are four things you can do to save both money and energy.

1.) Seal Drafts

The easiest way to make sure your home is warm and cozy is to take care of any drafts. While they may not seem like a big deal, these small drafts can be difference in having a nice, warm house. Inspect all entry ways into the house and close gaps around doors and windows to keep warm air inside.

2.) Close Unused Rooms

Another tip for that will help to heat your house up is limiting where the air can go to. Many people heard their parents say that didn’t want to heat the outside world, but maybe you can extend that saying even further. Limit heating to only the rooms you use to save energy. You can do this by simply closing doors.

3.) Use Sunlight Wisely

The easiest way to warm up your home is by using your windows. Letting some natural light in during the cold months of the year can help your mood, but it can also give you some extra warmth in your home. Open curtains during the day, and make sure to close them at night.

4.) Reverse Ceiling Fans

There are a lot of people who don’t know that you can reverse your ceiling fans in order to create a flow of air. In the summer, your fans will run counterclockwise and be pushing cooler air but simply switch the flip to make them go in the reverse direction. Run fans clockwise to push warm air down into living spaces.
