The leaves are starting to turn beautiful shades of orange and yellow, and colder weather is just around the corner. Now is a great time to check these eight maintenance items to ensure your home stays safe and cozy all winter.
- Clean your gutters and downspouts of any leaves or debris.
- Drain and disconnect outside garden hoses and turn off exterior spigots.
- Reverse the flow of ceiling fans. Setting them to spin clockwise will circulate the warmer air in your home.
- Set your thermostat no lower than 55 degrees to help prevent frozen pipes.
- Flush your water heater to remove any sediment that has accumulated.
- Check your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. You should do this at least twice yearly but monthly is even better.
- Replace your HVAC filters to maximize efficiency and prevent any buildup.
- Bring your outdoor patio furniture inside or cover it up to protect it from the elements.
