Howard Hanna Children’s Free Care Fund Presents University Hospitals with Donation

During the pre-game of the Browns Week 8 matchup against the Ravens on Oct. 27, Howard Hanna was recognized for their community efforts with the Howard Hanna Children’s Free Care Fund (HHCFCF).

As part of the Browns’ Crucial Catch game, HHCFCF presented a check for $125,000 to University Hospital’s Rainbow Babies and Children’s in Cleveland. Leah Gibbons, SVP and CMO of Howard Hanna along with Melissa Crockett Willis, the Vice President and West Regional Manager of Howard Hanna presented the donation to Vice President & Campaign Director of Institutional Relations & Development at University Hospitals, Ryan Cross and Marlene R. Miller, M.D., MSc, Pediatrician-in Chief at University Hospitals.

“For two decades, the Howard Hanna Children’s Free Care Fund has provided vital funding to UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s,” Marlene R. Miller, M.D., MSc, Pediatrician-in Chief, University Hospitals, and Chair, Department of Pediatrics, UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s said. (Dr. Miller is also the Marsha L. Antonucci Distinguished Chair of Pediatrics.) “Countless children across Northeast Ohio have benefited from the generosity of the Hanna Family and Howard Hanna’s agents and staff and we are proud to serve as their community partner.”

The Browns have ongoing partnerships with both Howard Hanna and University Hospitals. They have been partners with Howard Hanna since 2020 and University Hospitals since 2014. Sunday’s check presentation was the third time the Browns have highlighted the work of the HHCFCF at the Browns’ Crucial Catch game.

HHCFCF’s donation to UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s aims to provide critical medical services to children from across the region.

Since 2005, the HHCFCF has donated $2,986,978 to the UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s, a pediatric acute care children’s teaching hospital. The HHCFCF has partnerships with 20 children’s hospitals across Howard Hanna markets, with regional offices and agents raising money to support local hospitals. Collectively, the HHCFCF has donated more than $21 million to support regional children in need.

“At Howard Hanna, we have always believed in giving back to our communities and making a difference in people’s lives,” Howard W. ‘Hoddy’ Hanna, III, Chair of Hanna Holdings, Inc. said. “36 years ago, we created the Howard Hanna Children’s Free Care Fund to ensure that no child is ever denied the medical care that they need. We are so thankful to partner with incredible children’s hospitals such as UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s. Miracles happen every day at UH Rainbow Babies, and we are proud to support the children and families in our community.”

The NFL’s Crucial Catch program works to fight cancer through early detection and risk education. Over the past 16 years, the Browns have brought awareness in the fight against all cancers throughout the month of October, culminating with the Crucial Catch game.

The Browns have annually worked alongside partners including the American Cancer Society Ohio, University Hospitals, The Littlest Heroes and others. In this work, the Browns have supported the league’s efforts by contributing to the direct impact of more than 1.8 million people nationwide via education, navigation and screening reminders.
